Looking for FREE Rehearsal Space?

Studios are closing/have closed their doors due to inflation, gentrification and the pandemic. Performance spaces are costly and/or shut down. It is harder than ever for dancemakers and dancers to find affordable, well equipped, welcoming studio and community space in Southern California.

Welcome to DRC’s HomeGrown Residency Program!

No need to worry about negotiating steep rental rates or finding a sprung floor. The DRC will connect you with big, beautiful spaces that will inspire you and give you a place to create and rehearse for FREE. Opportunities vary based on partner sites availability. Currently offered in the Fall, with an accessible application opening in Summer, once approved, select applicants will receive studio space for a period of time to create, train, choreograph and rehearse their work. Additionally, PAID performance opportunities are also offered to align with your residency.

6 weeks of FREE creative and rehearsal space in Downtown LA. DRC Members will have first access to the application. ALL local professional dancers and companies are invited and encouraged to apply. Travel/gas stipend included for selected participants.

November – December 2024

6 weeks of FREE creative and rehearsal space in East LA with an optional performance at Fusion Holiday Show December 14th. DRC Members will have first access to the application. ALL local professional dancers and companies are invited and encouraged to apply. Travel/gas/performance stipend included for selected participants.

DRC Members will have first access to the application. ALL local professional dancers and companies are invited and encouraged to apply. Performance stipend included for selected participants.

HomeGrown @ Terra Nova

Date: 2018-06-02 00:00:00 Location: MiModa Studios

Choreographers worked closely with world renowned choreographer Rosanna Gamson to reboot their creative process and find new strategies to strengthen their artistic voice among other LA-based choreographers. Terra Nova offered a rigorous yet constructive setting in which participants met weekly to develop original body-based movement explorations. Artists were then invited to participate in a culminating performance and conversation with the public.
