Laura Bleiberg Named DRC’s Inaugural LA Dance Champion

In recognition of her longstanding role as supporter of dance in Los Angeles, the Board of Directors of
Dance Resource Center is pleased to name Laura Bleiberg inaugural LA Dance Champion. DRC has created this honor, to be given at the Board’s discretion to those who have worked tirelessly to support and uplift Los Angeles dance and the Los Angeles dance community. Laura, through her dance criticism and writings, has heralded all aspects of dance in Los Angeles. Laura also spent three years in arts administration giving her a unique understanding of what it takes to create and produce dance performance.

In honor of Laura, DRC will award a stipend to an emerging dance journalist. If you have been writing about dance for five years or less and wish to apply for this award, please send your name, contact information, short bio and a blog post of no more than 500 words about an aspect of the LA dance community to info@danceresourcecenter.org by March 31st, 2021. Subject Line: Dance Journalist Candidate. The recipient of this award will receive $500 and the blog will be featured in an upcoming issue of LA Moves. Laura Bleiberg is a journalist and arts critic, whose pieces have appeared in The New York Times, Boston Globe, GQ, Dance Magazine and other publications. She has been the primary dance critic (freelance) for the Los Angeles Times since 2008. She was an arts reporter at the Orange County Register, a senior editor at Orange Coast Magazine, a news reporter for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and the guest dance critic for public radio station KCRW-89.9 FM. She was awarded a fellowship to the National Arts Journalism Program at Columbia University, and attended the American Dance Festival’s Critics Conference in Durham, North Carolina.
